ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD is a common neurological disorder that affects mostly young boys and is traditionally treated with methylphenidate (aka Ritalin®). This issue here is that this substance is known to produce effects similar to amphetamines and cocaine, including permanent changes to the developing brain. Just as disturbing, many children are often misdiagnosed simply because they are hyperactive, and are then started on this drug regime unnecessarily.

For parents looking for a drug-free alternative, chiropractic may be a solution in reducing nervous system disturbances and potentially alleviating common ADHD symptoms like inattention, restlessness, difficulty concentrating and impulsive behaviour.

Chiropractic is not a cure or treatment for ADHD, however, patients found Chiropractic care helpful to managing the individuals overall health and wellness.

The link between the spine and brain stem dysfunction

Rather than treating the symptoms, Dr. Tara and Dr. Tessa look for disturbances to your child’s nervous system, often caused by spinal distortions in the upper neck, or even a reversal of the normal neck curve. Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce this tension on the nervous system.

It’s also a good idea to rule out any environmental factors by reducing your child’s exposure to preservatives, pesticides, additives, common allergens (e.g. dairy or gluten), artificial sweeteners and common household chemicals. In fact, transitioning to a cleaner, more natural diet and lifestyle is a smart choice, whether your child has ADHD or not!

We know you want only the best for your children, which is why we’re here to help guide you. Bring your child to Live Well Family Chiropractic for an evaluation and let us give you the support you need!
